Security Consultant

With nearly two decades experience in technical roles from engineering to architecture, predominantly in financial services, Ben has a proven track record for delivering successful outcomes within large programme delivery environments. With a background in cyber security and infrastructure he offers a broad range of knowledge and experience to support a range of initiatives.

What was your background before joining Altus Consulting?

Prior to joining Altus, I worked at Nationwide Building Society for 10 years, starting off in Infrastructure Engineering, before moving into Architecture. My previous experience in IAM engineering roles within the Society paved the way for a move into Security Architecture where I have since steered my career path.

Prior to Nationwide I worked in technical engineering roles within data centre hosting and marketing environments. Before choosing to pursue a career in IT, I worked in various roles including mortgage underwriting, financial advice, logistics, mental health care, and even sound engineering.

What attracted you to Altus Consulting?

Altus was recommended to me by a colleague I had worked with in the past who I had a lot of respect for. He had previously worked at Altus and thought I would be a very good fit in the company. His recommendation was spot on and the move to consultancy has been both inspiring and rewarding.

Tell us a bit about your team.

The Digital team is very supportive and collaborative, and the range of knowledge and experience is remarkable. Everyone is extremely hard working, but at the same time we have a lot of fun and laughs.

What do you do in your role?

Consultancy is a very varied role with new challenges and problems to solve for clients arising all the time. Some assignments are architectural in nature, some are more focused on advice and guidance, and others can be very technical and down in the weeds. Primarily my role is focused on cyber security, but my background in infrastructure and web hosting often gets called upon to support clients or other members of the team.

What do you enjoy about working here?

The team at Altus across the company are great and there is a strong work hard/play hard culture in the organisation. You certainly feel part of the company’s journey and success and it genuinely is a great place to work. Aside from the work culture, the work itself is varied and keeps you on your toes but is also rewarding when supporting clients.

How has your role changed since being here?

Having only been with the company for about a year, the role itself hasn’t changed a great deal in that time, but as an individual I have been given the opportunity to progress my skills and define the role. As an individual I have grown in confidence and have been able to contribute my ideas for developing the cybersecurity offering within the Digital domain.

What has made you stay?

First and foremost, it’s the people in the company. There is a great culture with everyone pulling in the same direction. The variety of the work keeps it interesting, and you are provided with opportunities to develop both yourself and the business. Altus makes you feel part of something more than just being an employee in an organisation.
