PMO Consultant

From a degree in psychology to spending a few years travelling, a ‘temporary’ move to Bristol (the land of colourful houses) turned out to be the best decision and one which led to a 6 year career in financial services.

What was your background before joining Altus Consulting?

Having obtained a psychology degree and a year of industrial experience at IBM I knew I wanted to spend a few years travelling. Returning from travelling I wasn’t sure what or where the next step would be. When I moved to Bristol and got a job at Hargreaves Lansdown, I worked within the Operations department for a year. I was still trying to decide whether I wanted to explore the Psychology route, with a potential move back into education, but then a job came up within the Portfolio Management Office in the Change Department. This looked like a great opportunity and a really varied role. I thought, well I have to apply for this and lets see! Amazingly, I got offered the job and there started my career in Change, it turned out that I loved the variety and people element that a job in Change provides. The move to Altus further enhancing this.

What attracted you to Altus Consulting?

Variety and opportunity. The company is growing rapidly and I thought it would be exciting to be a part of this. During the interview process I was told how friendly and supportive the team were and this really shone through and remains the same almost 2 years on.

Tell us a bit about your team.

We have grown quickly, we all like to talk and are always up for a laugh. There is a breadth of experience with different backgrounds.

What do you do in your role?

I work in the Programme Delivery department. On a day to day basis I usually work with one of two clients either as a project manager or PMO manager. This role tailors per the clients need however at it’s core it is bringing a clear Governance, Communication, resource and tooling structure into play to effectively help our clients achieve the strategic goals of their change programme. Alongside this I work on our internal proposition and enjoy being involved in our external events and thought leadership activities, which contributes towards our overall Marketing strategy.

What do you enjoy about working here?

The job is very varied, there is always a different opportunity and you don’t always know what is coming next. (I love this!). There is always room for progression and Altus also provide opportunities to obtain professional qualifications in your chosen area.

The PEOPLE – it is an incredibly supportive and non- judgemental environment. There is a wealth of experience which means someone will always have an answer or be a good sounding board to bounce ideas off.

How has your role changed since being here?

I joined Altus in the Academy Programme (now the Aspire Programme) which brings people into the organisation who have 3-5 years of experience within the Financial Services industry.  The programme gives you the opportunity to work with all practices within Altus Consulting, learning from everyone, whilst still having the support of your allocated team during the training year. I ‘graduated’ from the academy in early 2023 and I now work as a Programme Delivery Consultant within the PM and PMO function.

What has made you stay?

The people and the varying opportunity. I feel listened to, supported and no day is ever the same. The company is growing and it’s a fun and collaborative environment to work in.
