As I sit down to reflect on the whirlwind that has been my first three months as an Aspire Consultant at Altus, I’m struck by the incredible journey I’ve embarked upon. From the moment I walked through the doors on my first day, I knew I was stepping into new opportunity and challenge. Today, I’m excited to share with you some of the key highlights, lessons learned, and memorable experiences that have shaped my initial venture into the dynamic realm of management consulting.
My initial weeks at Altus were marked by an extensive induction program that introduced me to every team within the company, fostering a comprehensive understanding of our operations. What stood out the most was the genuine warmth and support from every team member, ensuring a smooth transition. The culture of Altus shone in this time, I felt able to ask any question during my induction and was able to begin to build relationships across the business. I appreciated the emphasis on readiness before diving into client work, allowing me to engage fully in onboarding and review prior assignments through the knowledge base, providing valuable insights and preparing me for the challenges ahead. Overall, my onboarding experience at Altus was exceptional, equipping me with the tools and confidence to excel in my role while fostering a sense of belonging within the company.
Building upon the solid foundation laid during onboarding, my journey into the intricacies of consulting at Altus has been both enlightening and enriching. From the outset, I found myself closely involved in ongoing projects across a diverse range of Financial Services businesses, providing me with invaluable insights into the intricate structures that underpin these organisations. Early in my time at Altus, I had the opportunity to support the team on a client engagement in facilitating a workshop where I saw consultants influencing the client towards the most effective solution. From working closely with more experienced consultants I have been able to learn the skill of consulting with our clients not at our clients and the importance of collaboration throughout engagements. The trust I have been given as a new consultant to take the reins and engage directly with clients coupled with the unwavering support and encouragement from my team has enhanced my learning experience as well as my confidence in my own abilities.
As an Aspire Consultant at Altus, I’m not just embarking on a job; I’m embarking on a journey of personal growth and development. The structured roadmap for professional development over the next two years, including rotations into different teams within Altus and extensive training courses, is laying the groundwork for my future success. The recently completed ‘Excellence in Professional Consulting’ course was particularly impactful, providing me with key models and processes essential for navigating the complexities of consulting projects. The opportunity to engage in roleplays as a consultant, coupled with feedback from experienced peers, has accelerated my learning and fuelled my determination to excel in this field. Moreover, participation in industry events such as TINtech London Market and Insurtech Insights has broadened my horizons, allowing me to stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the field whilst expanding my network.
Looking ahead, I am eager to continue my journey of growth and development as a consultant. With a clear pathway laid out before me, I am confident in my ability to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. As I strive towards becoming a fully-fledged Management Consultant, I am grateful for the experiences and support that have shaped my journey thus far, and I am excited for what the future holds.
