What was your background before joining Altus Consulting?
Prior to relocating to the UK via a year in Spain, I spent 10 years in the Canadian public service working for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in operational and administrative support roles, that focused on Information Management. For my first role in the UK, I stayed with the familiar and continued my career in the public service by taking a contract with the DWP as a Work Coach.
What attracted you to Altus Consulting?
After spending over 10 years in the public sector, I was ready for a change. To be honest, I didn’t know anything about Altus until I saw the job advert. As I researched the company, I liked what I saw. I really loved the story of how the company was founded by a small group of friends and that Altus had a commitment to giving back to the local community. As a Canadian, Altus being part of the Equisoft family was very appealing to me.
Tell us a bit about your team.
The Operations team is a friendly and diverse group that work behind the scenes to ensure that all areas of the business run smoothly and efficiently.
What do you do in your role?
The focus of my role is all things financial, but being part of the Operations team means I provide support to all aspects of the business. A typical day could include invoicing clients, producing reports for the management team, booking meetings, booking travel, taking meeting minutes, working on improving internal work streams, assisting the Marketing Team with event planning and anything else that the wider team throws my way.
What do you enjoy about working here?
The people are truly what makes Altus a great place to work. From the day I joined, I felt welcome and a valued part of the team. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I like the variety of work that I can get involved in. At Altus you are encouraged to take training or obtain qualifications to help you progress in your career.
How has your role changed since being here?
My role continues to evolve and change as the company continues to grow. 20 people have joined the business since I started almost 2 years ago. The Operations Team was just in its infancy when I started. As Altus continues to grow, the Operations team continues to evolve to meet the needs of the business. The constant change and evolution can be challenging and stressful at times, but I also find it very fulfilling.
What has made you stay?
I remember going home after my first interview and knowing I wanted to work for Altus. Fast forward 2 years later and I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else. The variety in my role, the flexibility of hybrid working, our new modern office, and the opportunity for growth continue to keep me engaged. But ultimately, it is the supportive group of people that I work alongside that keep me at Altus.
