Anyone who has ever tried to manage a significant change programme will understand the challenge of maintaining large numbers of deliverables over time and across an organisation. Understanding dependencies, analysing impacts, managing change, versioning and sign-off - all these will be familiar issues. Managing an Enterprise Architecture (which is inherently inteconnected and subject to change) takes these challenges to another level.
Tool support is therefore a crucial part of a full EA solution and Altus have a considerable interest in understanding the various alternatives and helping our clients both to select and get maximum value from such tools. We help our clients to work out exactly what they want a tool for before they buy and to develop their EA metamodel in the process.
Whatever tool you choose though, there is no silver bullet. However good the vendor's training, there will always be a job to operationalise the EA tool for your organisation; integrating it with your project management, governance and development methods to ensure it supports your approach to change rather than dictating it.
And once the tool is rolled out and in use, there is still the Cinderella task of monitoring its use, ensuring a consistent approach and mentoring new staff to assure the ongoing quality of content.
Altus have extensive experience of all these tasks and many of the leading tools (System Architect, Casewise, Sparx EA, Troux) which we are happy to share with organisations looking to implement a new EA tool - see our Contacts page for details on how to get in touch.

"Altus’ knowledge of FS business process was key in embedding standards within a practical, logical framework."
